Three days later

I can’t believe I’m here. Back in Italy. My nerves are getting the best of me as I try to keep my hands from shaking. I didn’t have a choice. I needed to come. I have to ensure my son makes it out of this country alive.

I haven’t been able to reach Al since I told him about Theo’s paternity. And I’m nervous, not knowing what he’s going to do. As I exit the plane, I realize I won’t have to wait long to find out. Standing in front of us is the man who still owns my heart. I watch as he greets my son. Our son. Then his dark gaze turns to me.

“Gloria, più bella che mai.” Al leans in and kisses me on each cheek. My body ignites at the contact. The same butterflies that used to erupt in my stomach return with a fiery passion.

I look him up and down as he steps back again. I’ve seen him from afar once or twice over the years. But I’ve avoided more intimate interactions, for fear that my husband would discover the truth about our son’s lineage.

He’s aged; of course he has. His hair is peppered at the sides. But his body? It looks just as fit and toned as it always was. His suit is well fitted, with dress pants that hug around thick, muscular thighs. And when he turns to walk away, that ass of his I used to admire so much is still just as firm. He clearly looks after himself well. I can’t help the rush of emotions and pent-up sexual energy that charge through me as I follow him to his helicopter. Apparently, T thinks it’s a good idea to take Al up on his hospitality and stay at the Donatello compound.

I don’t know what Al’s up to. I need to get him alone, beg him, plead with him not to tell T the truth. I can’t do that to my son... But I also know Al, and there is no way he’s going to keep this information to himself.

I can feel Al’s eyes burning into me the whole trip to his estate. An estate I’ve visited many times when I was younger. I know the walls of these grounds better than I should. Or at least I used to.

We land and Al exits first, extending a hand to me. I have no choice but to take his open palm as I step down out of the helicopter. My skin burns with the zap that runs through it. I then make the mistake of looking up, my eyes meeting his. I recognize the confusion and mixed feelings staring back at me.

He hates me, as he should. He has every right to. But there’s also still love… Or is it lust I see in his eyes? He turns his head, trying to hide his reaction. I saw it though. It’s still there. After all this time, our connection is still there.
